The 2017 season of Festival Mozaic comes to a close with an afternoon of evocative music. Britten’s Six Metamorphoses for solo oboe evokes mythical creatures from Ovid’s classic poem. Vaughan Williams’ sonorous Piano Quintet is little-known to today's audiences as it was embargoed from performances by the composer's family until the 1990s. Closing the program is Dvorák’s Viola Quintet, which he composed after a transformative visit to Iowa during which he was inspired by Native and African American musical traditions.
